SYNOPSIS - back to top

Morning Ragas by Ustad Wajahat Khan

Sarod, tabla, tanpura - Indian classical music

A rare opportunity to hear morning ragas by India's celebrated sarod maestro Ustad Wajahat Khan. Belonging to the 8th generation of India's first and most distinguished dynasty of sitar players, Wajahat Khan has performed to great acclaim in over 30 countries worlwide, at prestigious venues/festivals such as London's Royal Albert Hall (BBC Proms) and Lincoln Centre (New York). Also as composer, he has made celebrated collaborations with jazz, flamenco, rock and Western classical, including 3 sarod concerts and an award-winning sarod quintet with leading international musicians, symphony orchestras and string quartets. In this rare morning concert Wajahat Khan (sarod) will be accompanied on the tanpura (drone), and on tabla (percussion) by one of UK's most outstanding tabla players Shahbaz Hussain.

In addition to this Sunday Morning concert, Wajahat Khan also appears as a composer and performer (sarod/vocal) with Scottish Opera, as part of Five:15 Operas Made in Scotland - on Saturday 16th (7pm) and Sunday 17th (5pm).
