The Observer - “a hilarious tour de force.....Monty Python's imperishable 'parrot sketch' now has a potentially immortal operatic rival.”
The Guardian - “it is perfectly articulated and sizzles with invention”
The Stage - “the evening is a feather in the cap of artistic director Bill Bankes-Jones"
Blind Date is Tête à Tête's latest performance that couples some of the UK’s most exciting composers and wordsmiths, from worlds as diverse as hip hop to children’s TV, to create six tempting mini operas of 15 minutes each.Be prepared for the explosive and exhilarating mix of stories that follow - from the outrageously funny, to the serene and bizarre.
We meet George Michael’s love-child; a parrot blows the gaff on a cheating wife; three characters witness a catastrophe; a Russian’s search for the childhood comfort of his nanny ends in carnage; opera critics get out of control and 40 years of history are traced through the occupants of a Canadian house.
One thing is for sure, that with music from Tête à Tête’s superb associate ensemble Chroma , consummate acting and the company’s hallmark fast-paced theatrical fun, Blind Date will continue Tête à Tête’s successful tradition of proving that an evening of new opera is a great night out for anyone.
