The Cockpit
Music: Rania Chrysostomou and Sarah Parkin
A major element of the On Being Vocal project is to explore how to include mothers of very young children among our audiences for opera. It would be a really big help in our exploration of this if you were to fill in this survey. For more information, click here.
Witness what’s happening in this emboldening women’s support group where 6 characters will bravely vocalise what they’ve learnt to hide: guilt, embarrassment, vulnerability. They show us a glimpse into their post-pandemic lives as millennial women (mums, professionals). They talk about distorted expectations of real life and how their upbringing prepared them for a different reality. But nothing of this is new. Only the way they are coping with it.
On Being Vocal is an a capella, one-woman, micro-opera performed by Canadian experimental soprano Sarah Parkin, created with Cypriot composer Rania Chrysostomou and visuals by British filmmaker Catherine Valve.
Funded by the Arts Council National Lottery Fund.
