1861, 2019; the Civil War, the climate crisis. Two women working for the Pinkerton Agency in two centuries must consider the implications of private security at a time of national upheaval.
The Agency is a filmed work-in-progress showing of an opera about the history of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, time travel, eco-noir feminism and America in times of crisis. With a combination of pre-recorded orchestra and live looping and an intimate cast of a mezzo, a soprano and an actor, the piece combines modern opera, minimalism, spoken word, and folk music to create an artistically experimental sound world that reflects both the 19th and 21st centuries.
The initial broadcast included composer, librettist and director/dramaturg hosting a live Q&A with the audience after the broadcast of the show. It was available for 28 days after the initial broadcast.
All ages (mostly adults)
