Tête à Tête collaborated with Helix Arts and Sage Gateshead to research and develop HOME, a new opera led by Tête à Tête Music Director Tim Burke involving 150 North Shields residents across two community choirs, a community dance group, mezzo-soprano soloist Anna Huntley and members of the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
The R&D took place over two days, with afternoon workshops for volunteers from the performing groups who wanted to become more involved in the action and movement of the opera, and evening workshops with Royal Northern Sinfonia, including a shared run of the whole opera for a small invited audience on the second evening.
The project was intended to fire the starter gun for community opera making in the region, and is now being developed into a production for public performance in July 2022 – see HOME.
