I am grateful to be a woman. I must have done something great in another life. – Maya Angelou
Frauenliebe und Leben reimagined for the 21st century is an intimate exploration of womanhood, love, and liberation.
Rooted in the beauty of everyday life, the work weaves together music and text with recorded conversations from women across generations, whose voices become part of the sonic fabric of the piece.
Projected video portraits of women in their daily lives create a reflection on intimacy, desire, companionship, identity, and selfhood, revealing the depth and beauty within the ordinary. Inspired by Robert Schumann’s original song cycle tracing a woman’s life through love, this reimagining expands the story into a contemporary portrait of women growing into themselves over time.
Age range: All ages, but mostly adults
In a festival of new work, please note that shows can often overrun.
