The Cockpit

Music:Rania Chrysostomou

Words: Caroline Coetzee

A work in progress.

Hidden Star is a lyrical, intimate character study of Annie Walker, a long-forgotten late 19th century astronomer.

The work crosses the boundaries of arts, sciences and social history, using contemporary words and music to create a real woman, exploring the impact of the destruction of her career. It touches on issues facing women in science and opens up the work of unseen scientists, without whose work our knowledge of the universe would be poorer. You’ll be invited to contribute to the development of the work based on excerpts from the opera, with presentations about Annie Walker and our creative process.

The project is supported by the University of Cambridge Institute of Astronomy.
