“I am jealous of everything that moves — I am jealous of the rain… How can you be jealous of the rain?
… is the question that thematises Hans Vercauteren’s latest work. Reminiscent of the evergreen “Green Sleeves”, Vercauteren’s compellingly contemporary composition Rain carries soprano Sarah Foubert and actor Charles Sobry right into the drama of this newly devised musical theatre piece.
The love affair between a sinister novelist and a married woman, flourishing in the turbulent times of the London Blitz, ends when she suddenly and without explanation breaks it off. After a chance meeting rekindles his love and jealousy two years later, the novelist hires a private detective to follow the woman, and slowly his love for her turns into an obsession.
The initial broadcast included company will giving a live introduction to the interactive broadcast of their opera, and taking questions from the audience in a chat after the performance. It was available for 28 days after the initial broadcast.
