The Cockpit
Music and Words: Warboy & Stewart
Slam! Doors shut. Music slurs to silence. Mirror balls stop turning. The dust covers dance floors following the Government’s decision to close nightclubs during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Shut Down The Club is an operatic techno rave spotlighting six nightlife characters who have spent months socially distanced.
A cast of cultural leaders from London’s LGBTQ+ nightlife community portray a spectrum of reactions: personal resets to plague raving; defiance; loss; rage; and philosophical hope as they attempt to come to terms with the decimation of a nighttime industry that feels like it has been thrown under the bus by politicians.
The interactive broadcast will include a panel and Q&A with the cast discussing the experience of combining nightlife with opera, and exploring the effects of the pandemic on their personal lives.
Age range: All ages, but mostly adults
Content advisory: death (not onstage), suicide (mentioned), strobe lighting
In a festival of new work, please note that shows can often overrun.
