A woman trying to purge her mind of every story she’s ever heard – a kind of cleansing ritual, as if a lifetime of stories is a weight she cannot bear. She goes through every story she can think of, tells a bit of each and dismisses each one. Her struggle leads her to boil the stories down to their most basic elements (“There was this guy and this girl. That’s one story”.) It’s about the impossibility of truly communicating; that no matter what we do we are likely to be misunderstood.

Written and composed by Kevin Jones, the work was originally composed for voice and piano octet. Kevin proposed a new arrangement for voice, piano and electronics. Sadly, he was unable to complete this as he passed away on December 7 2016. The Tête-a-Tête Opera Festival was important to Kevin, with performances of his work Your Call… premiered in 2014 with mezzo soprano Lisa J Coates, and a revised version the following year with the addition of mezzo Hai-Ting Chin.

Tell One, Forget One is presented in his memory, with electronics by Desmond Clarke, and Nicole Johnson (piano) and Lisa J Coates (mezzo).
