The Cockpit

Like many others, we’ve had a fantastic 2024 with Tête à Tête, making opera, creating new works and performing old ones the length and breadth of England. We’re thoroughly looking forward to a really bright future for the art form.

The Joy of Opera invites our operatic community to come together to celebrate our work, to explore playfully the creative possibilities of our art form, to welcome anyone from on stage and behind the scenes, freelancer or full time to leave spreadsheets and business plans at the door.

How it works:

When you arrive, at 15:30 on Monday, you will be given ONE MAGIC BEAN or if you bring a cow of sufficient quality you might be able to sell her for MORE MAGIC BEANS.  You can spend these beans as you wish on a variety of ‘stalls’ throughout the afternoon, with a mass changeover every 45 minutes.

Leo Doulton of Virtually Opera running Dice and Rolls of the Sim of Operaindustry sessions, where people can model and role play the opera sector for 45 minute slots FOUR MAGIC BEANS

Queerlove composer Guy Harries running participatory sessions called Everybody’s Queer, 45 minutes, FOUR MAGIC BEANS

Lee Sprague and Opera Prelude Building a word cloud for the Joy of opera 5 minutes ONE MAGIC BEAN

If you contribute to Regina Mendes’ visionary Dreams and a Heart visionary arts project by meditating dreams into the heart of one of many tiny dolls – she will PAY YOU IN BEANS AT HER DISCRETION

Anthony Ingle of Impropera running participatory sessions on improvising opera called Attitude > Aptitude 45 minutes THREE MAGIC BEANS.

April Koyojo-Audiger leads a session on The Artist/Producer 1 hour FIVE MAGIC BEANS

Wildkat PR running drop in sessions on getting press for your shows ten minutes TWO MAGIC BEANS

Tête à Tête Music Director Tim Burke will PAY YOU IN BEANS for fragments of melody, harmony or words to be strung together in a co-composed opera to round of the day. Extra beans for willing performers, let us know in advance.

We’ll round the afternoon off with a drink or two in the bar and a best cow competition.

Attendance is completely free, we want everyone to feel welcome, though do please book in advance and tell us what skills you might want to bring and share.
