The Cockpit

Music: Greg Arrowsmith

Words: Bernadine Corrigan

In Knossos, so the myth goes, Theseus and Ariadne joined forces to slay the monstrous Minotaur housed in the labyrinth there.

In Knossos, so the truth goes, there were found small pieces of clay bearing traces of a language unknown.

Who would join forces to unravel the mystery?

‘Ciphers’ is a 45 minute extract from a full opera that tells the story of the two brilliant and complex people who came together to decipher an ancient text, Linear B. She, a professor from Brooklyn and he, a young British architect. She laid the groundwork. He had a stroke of genius. ‘Ciphers’ is the story of their clashing personalities, thwarted ambition, success, and tragedy.
