The Cockpit
Creator/Writer/Performer: Stacie Dunlop
Composer of original music: Frank Horvat
Letters is a work born out of resistance, and spurred on by the question “does the past really matter?” It breaks the silence of a grandmother’s threat to never tell this story out loud.
A cross-genre mash-up of opera/music-theatre/pop/rock/improvisation in the voice and body. It re-examines the relationship with a mother who’s struggle with addiction and mental health, which was the backdrop of her early years through adulthood.
Canadian soprano and multi-hyphenate artist, Stacie Dunlop, co-created this work-in-development with the prolific Canadian composer Frank Horvat, bringing to the stage a story of resilience, weaving together an intense and sometimes hilarious tale, that cause some to utter “is it really true?”
